Somehow we lost the debrief for Rindi's lesson, but we had a great discussion about how we need to create a rich foundation for vocabulary and writing development.
Here is what I can remember from memory:

THINGS WE CAN USE OR ADAPT:
Developing vocabulary specific for our writing assignments and from our reading assignments
Students sketch while others read aloud
Using procedures and practices that ensure many students participate
Rich language development encouraged through all the activities
Thematic unit: All the activities and materials were building toward our writing activity
Movement to break up the reading and writing activities
Cheers and positive affirmations throughout the lesson
Lots of methods that foster discovery and think time so students could prepare and find their learning in the lesson

THINGS TO CONSIDER OR ADAPT:
Allow each animal table group to generate the sparkle words that match their own animals
Provide some alternatives or decrease the dancing for teachers of other grades who may not feel comfortable
Punctuate your lesson with adaptations for upper grades or other content (other topics that could be explored)as you go to keep
